Boxes of Hope is a nonprofit organization based in Tucson, Arizona. We turn abandoned shipping containers from Arizona’s border wall into safe, affordable rental homes.
Shipping containers were stacked along Arizona’s unlawful border wall and later left behind. We saw an opportunity: repurpose those containers and convert them into affordable, rental homes for people who need them most.
Every container is thoroughly refurbished and freshly painted, inside and out, and fitted with everything a household needs to live with dignity.
Tucson is struggling with one of the highest poverty rates in America, compounded by a shortage of affordable housing and skyrocketing rental prices. Boxes of Hope intends to change that for the people hit hardest: seniors, teachers, veterans, single parents and laborers.
But putting roofs over people’s heads is just the beginning. We’ve partnered with La Frontera to provide residents with behavioral healthcare and job training, so they can get back on their feet, earn a living and become more self-sufficient.

Each home features a private bedroom, living area, kitchenette and full bathroom, with new flooring, walls and windows. Homes are built for Arizona’s heat with dense insulation and a mini split AC unit.
